Ceramic, clay, linen, found material

Dimensions variable

Through this work I am challenging and reimaging the act of showcasing images. Specifically framed photographic displays curated in our own homes--  which carry sentimental value, and tell specific narratives. By obscuring this common practice of hanging pictures, I aim to convey the emotional and physical experience of loss and memory. Both the images and frames become altered by the kiln and their new materiality.

The use of clay seeks to make the picture frame -- its size, form, and minute details -- visible as serving a purpose beyond holding an image. Manipulating the structure of the frame pushes it away from practicality to expose their function as cultural objects and tools of communication.
