Through the use of photographic processes, sculpture, and site specific installation, I unravel and reconfigure historic narratives in order to create new meaning within the context of the socio-political landscape of today. Familial relationships, queerness, and the built environment become catalysts for my material exploration.


BIO:

Sophia Ramirez (b.1999) is a Oakland (CA) + Bellingham (WA) based multidisciplinary artist. She holds a BA from Mills College in Studio Art and History. Ramirez was a Nancy Cook Travel Photography Fellow and participated in the 2023 Nancy Cook group exhibition, On Site, at Slide Space 123 (Oakland, CA). She was a part of Root Division’s Introductions 2024 (San Francisco, CA), and the group exhibition Letter From The Network at Berkeley Art Center (Berkeley, CA). Her work was published in the catalog for S.F Camera Work’s FORECAST 2024 and Root Division’s Introductions 2024. In October 2025, Sophia Ramirez was invited by artist Catherine Wagner to create a work in collaboration with the exhibition Catherine Wagner: Blue Reverie at 500 Capp St, The Davide Ireland Foundation ( San Francisco, CA).
